Weren't there some pretty big differences in the Chara situation?

I remember from an interview with Z at the '06 draft, that he said he'd stay in Ottawa and even take a discount, if Redden also took a discount. But Redden didn't and signed with the Sens for more than they were offering Chara, before Chara signed with Boston. In other words, Ottawa chose Redden over Chara.

Whereas Kessel never entertained the idea of a discount, and the B's offered Kessel more than they paid Krejci, so it seems like he wasn't even interested in fair market value.

Also, Z didn't just go for the money. Yeah, he got more from Boston than Ottawa was offering, but he took less from Boston than LA was offering. So it wasn't a straight money chase.

Whereas Kessel had other teams interested in him, but Toronto was offering the most money, so it didn't matter that Nashville was better, he made it impossible to trade him anywhere but to the highest bidder.
